The PURS Luxury Boutique Hotel & Restaurant is the first hotel to be designed as a whole by Belgian designer and antiquarian Axel Vervoordt. Every room, every suite, every object testifies to his incomparable sense of style and leaves a special feeling: that of a home. Like no other, Vervoordt knows how to make great works of art work. He manages to find what connects different epochs and art forms and to stage it in such a way that it becomes accessible to the viewer. Never exaggerated, always modest and genuine. You don’t have to be an art connoisseur to appreciate the special, pure aesthetics of the hotel and feel at home straight away.
The art of Axel Vervoordt is to recognize art as such. Where others see only objects, he often sees timeless beauty. Early on, in his youth, the Belgian proved to have a knack for such special pieces, and even today he continues to impress with extraordinary finds. Eliminating everything unimportant to reveal the essence: That is what makes his work so special.
Axel Vervoordt has not only turned the hotel into a total work of art, but has also integrated special objects by renowned artists. Works of art by the Italian Ida Barbarigo adorn the rooms and parts of the public areas such as the library – including the somewhat melancholy and always impressive work “The Prosecutors”, which has found its place in the entrance area of the hotel. Modern artists have also moved into the PURS Luxury Boutique Hotel & Restaurant with unique works of art. Concrete works by Belgian artist Renato Nicolodi complement the staircase, while sculptures by Belgian artist Dominique Stroobant can be found on various shelves in the building.
Japanese works, including ceramic art by Shiro Tsujimura, one of the most sought-after contemporary potters, and works by sculptor and installation artist Susumu Koshimizu, have also been staged by Axel Vervoordt at PURS in such a way that they can unfold their full effect.
