Sustainability at PURS Fine Hotels & Restaurants

Driven by a passion for creating unforgettable experiences, we at PURS Fine Hotels & Restaurants are committed to a sustainable future. Our goal is to create a unique resort – a place that not only impresses with exceptional cuisine and impressive architecture, but also with responsible action.

For us, sustainability means combining ecological awareness, social responsibility and economic activity. We create a home that is characterized by hospitality, warmth and respect for people and the environment – for unforgettable experiences today and a future worth living tomorrow.

OUR 12 COMMITMENTS TO SUSTAINABILITY

Nature is facing an unprecedented crisis: according to a UNESCO report by the IPBES platform, around one million species worldwide are threatened with extinction. The oceans are particularly hard hit – as a habitat, climate regulator and food source. The loss of biodiversity also threatens the stability of our food systems.

To counteract this development, UNESCO has established a partnership with Relais & Châteaux that emphasizes the close connection between nutrition, health and the environment. Sustainable food systems and the preservation of culinary traditions play a key role in this.

We at PURS Fine Hotels & Restaurants also share this responsibility. For us, sustainability means environmental compatibility, social responsibility and economic sustainability. Together with our guests, employees and partners, we are committed to preserving the balance between people and nature – for a future worth living.

  1. Promoting the diversity of the many different cultures of hospitality around the world through the uniqueness of each Relais & Châteaux property and its local character. Preserving local heritage, emblematic local architecture – from the most traditional to the most modern – the art of decoration, landscaping and gardening.
  2. Promote collaboration with local communities, producers and suppliers to create shared value and support them in developing their activities and preserving the diversity of their cultural heritage.
  3. A gastronomic offer that, thanks to the creativity of the chefs, is an expression of the uniqueness of a place and its biodiversity, its natural and cultural environment, the local history or the traditions of agriculture and fishing.
  4. Working with all stakeholders in our ecosystem to give as many people as possible the chance to discover and appreciate the important role of the environment, food and cuisine in our health, to raise awareness of the quality of produce and to share the joy of enjoying an exceptional meal together.
  5. Contribute to the regeneration and development of terrestrial and marine ecosystems in cooperation with local authorities, non-governmental organizations, scientists and all other stakeholders committed to the conservation of biodiversity.

  6. Leveraging the influence of Relais & Châteaux chefs and their choice of sourcing to promote the development of regenerative agriculture, advocate for humane farming conditions that respect animal welfare and contribute to the preservation of the world’s oceans by supporting small-scale fisheries that use sustainable fishing techniques.

  7. Worldwide contribution – by the association and its members – to the fight against global climate change by 2040 by permanently implementing new management concepts in Relais & Châteaux properties that will enable them to measure and manage the progressive decarbonization of their activities.

  8. Gradual implementation of very ambitious environmental targets – for the association and its members – by 2040 in the areas of water, energy, waste management, avoidance of plastics (especially single-use plastic items) and targeted use of local and seasonal food.

  9. Support local communities in their efforts to preserve and develop their cultural and craft heritage. Work with them to develop educational opportunities where needed and work together to reduce inequalities. Provide opportunities for those who wish to do so to engage in hospitality and gastronomy and to develop socially and economically in an environment committed to excellence.

  10. Guarantee our employees meaningful positions and responsibilities as well as exemplary working conditions and management methods through our shared commitments, respect their diversity and enable every team member to have a fulfilling private and family life.

  11. Sharing our expertise and passion for goodness and beauty in collaboration with our entire ecosystem. Sharing these values every day and promoting our commitment to all our stakeholders.

  12. Ensure that every home is a place where the quality of human relationships is paramount, and a place of respect and harmony for our guests, our employees and the communities around us.

Greensign certification

The GreenSign sustainability certification is awarded by the GreenSign Institut GmbH from Berlin. It is a certification catalog recognized by the world-renowned Global Sustainable Tourism Council for determining the level of sustainability of a hotel. The certification is divided into five levels, which indicate how many of the certification criteria a hotel fulfills. To obtain GreenSign certification, a hotel must first complete the comprehensive catalog of requirements. This contains more than 100 criteria, which are divided into eight core areas. In addition to ecological sustainability, social, cultural and economic aspects are also covered.

ENVIRONMENTAL COMPATIBILITY

For us, sustainability begins with a respectful approach to our environment. The goal is clear: minimize our environmental footprint.

Green Option – Hereby we offer our guests the possibility to waive room cleaning or towel change and thus actively contribute to the reduction of water and energy consumption.

Digitization – The use of digital solutions, helps to minimize paper consumption and enable a more efficient use of resources.

LED lamps – Wherever possible.

The cleaning – We use only the TANA greencare products. These are cradle to cradle certified, carry the EU Ecolabel and are made from plant resources

Social responsibility

For us, sustainability also means acting in a socially responsible manner. We promote fair working conditions, diversity and local initiatives. Our cooperation with Perspektive Andernachan organization that supports people without work or training, is an example of this. Together with the “Edible City” initiative, they sell sustainable plant towers that are manufactured in a workshop for the disabled. By purchasing these towers, we promote inclusion and strengthen the community.

In addition, we provide our guests in public areas and on departure free of charge EARTH Water free of charge. 100% of the net profit from its sale goes towards sustainable water projects to give people around the world access to clean drinking water. Every time you use it, you are helping to change lives and shape a sustainable future.

Economic sustainability

Long-term economic success is a key to sustainability. We rely on sound economic planning and efficient use of resources to be successful not only today but also in the future. This means investing wisely, minimizing our operating costs while ensuring the highest quality and service for our guests. We are convinced that economic stability and sustainability can go hand in hand.
